Bugs are an important part of our ecosystem, lacewings and ladybirds keep pests like aphids down while others are food for birds. Others like bees fertilise our crops that we humans need to survive. Like us they need places to sleep safely and dry; they need nooks and crannies to get them through the hard times or give them somewhere to breed and sleep tight through the winter.
My heavy duty bug houses are approx. 12 inches high x 6 inches deep x 6 inches wide and made from 20 mm thick solid pine for long life.
Similar to my bird houses I follow the RSPB specification for bird houses: * Responsibly-sourced wood. * Non-toxic water-based wood preservative. * 20 mm thick wood to keep nest warm in cool weather and cool in when it gets hot.
